Our history...

Founded June 5, 1955, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Nunzio Galletta, 1955Galletta Engineering was organized June 5, 1955 by Mr. Nunzio Galletta working out of a basement office at 3910 Mintwood Street. Already a veteran of the U.S. Army, a Registered Professional Engineer and member of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, Mr. Galletta gained practical experience working at Loftus Engineering Corporation. Mr. Galletta began taking jobs doing surveys of residential and commercial sites and within a few months was designing foundations for a local steel producer.

Early Drafting

In November of '55 he was joined by fellow University of Pittsburgh graduate Felix Bombara and in January of '56 by John Amuso, also of the University of Pittsburgh.

Offering to initally "work at wages" gained opportunities to establish the credibility, resourcefulness and dedication this young company brought to the table. This approach developed an association with ALCOA leading another University of Pittsburgh classmate into the company. Mr. Ray Buehler was a Project Manager with Peth & Reed with experience on ALCOA projects. He joined Galletta in 1963 becoming a Partner in 1965.

Third Ave Office Four Owners

In 1957 the company moved into new offices at 129 Third Avenue.   A fire in 1965 forced the company to move to the Magee Building on Fourth Avenue where  we continued to grow.  In 1987 the offices were moved to 610 Smithfield Street occupying two floors of the Smithfield Building above the Brooks Brothers Clothing Store.

Smithfield St Office

The Smithfield Building was sold and scheduled for renovation prompting another move in 2003.  This time Galletta Engineering moved to Pittsburgh's "Strip District" in offices just a couple blocks from the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.  We shifted from 1200 to our present home at 1300 Penn Avenue as the building owner adjusted and expanded tenant space in this developing area of the Strip.  Our entrance is directly across the intersection of Penn Avenue at 13th Street.

Just as time has brought frequent and considerable change to our physical office, so too has time brought Galletta Engineering to experience leadership changes in our management.

Nunzio shows Galletta's 53yrs cake

After 52 years of business Nunzio Galletta and Felix Bombara transferred ownership of the company to a team of dedicated managers from within the company.  On January 1, 2008 our new ownership team of Bernie Bombara, Mike Milligan, Chester Wawrzonek and Dan Smith took their positions at the helm in a seemless transition.

The officers, managers, and staff of Galletta Engineering, together with our many clients and friends, recognize the years of dedication and leadership given to the challenges of growing our company.
